1. If you don't know diamonds, know your diamond jeweler
- Find a jeweler you trust
- Same with gemstones, if you don't know gemstones get yourself acquainted with a jeweler that will educate you
2. Get Educated (Understand the basics of diamonds and jewelry)
- Take the time to speak with a knowledgeable jeweler and learn the differences in grading and quality
- Size isn't the most important factor, how you mount it is
- Diamonds are pure Carbon crystallized in the cubic system
- Learn about the 6 C's of diamond buying (Cut, Clarity, Carat, Color, Certificate & Clarks)
3. Learn to Study Diamonds Under Magnification
- Have your jeweler show you a variety of diamonds under magnification so you can see and understand the difference in diamond quality and clarity
- Understand what you are looking at
- Get a rudimentary understanding of the diamond grading system
4. Be Knowledgable When Purchasing
- Understanding what you are buying will help avoid any buyers remorse
- Remember diamonds are an emotional purchase, so do your homework and be educated when purchasing
5. Be Clear in Your Buying Intentions
- Utilize all tools you have at your disposal and make the correct purchase for the occasion
- Make a conscious effort to understand diamonds, mounts and everything else in the jewelry world before making the purchase.
